Walk for Hope

"More than 500 Charlotte Country Day School staff and students in grades five through eight will participate in the second annual Walk for Hope at the school’s middle school campus, 5936 Green Rea Road" on Monday, November 21.

""While the Walk for Hope will financially benefit an area of pediatric cancer, I really wanted to make this a teaching moment for our students," Trish Rohr said in a news release. The proceeds go directly to Levine Children’s Hospital Rockstar Fund to aid in the education of children getting treatment at the hospital."

Carolina Blue Blessings for Perry

Regardless of college affiliations, pull out your Carolina Blue {or anything light blue} and wear it tomorrow {Thursday, November 17, 2011} to support Perry, a rockstar in her own right.  From the time she was born, Perry started receiving laser therapy to treat the retinoblastoma tumors that had formed in both of her eyes; she endured brain surgery, pneumonia, and a medically induced coma for 19 days all before she was three.  Perry is now 11 years old, and she will have another extensive surgery tomorrow to remove a bone tumor in her leg.  Her recovery will be lengthy and followed by additional rounds of chemo.

Please take a few minutes tomorrow to snap a picture of yourself, your children, the Carolina blue sky, or anything else that is light blue, and say a quick prayer for Perry.  Email your pictures and support to trish@rohrrockstars.org.  Throughout the day, we'd love to pour out blue blessings on Perry's family in NYC.

To read about the beginnings of Perry's journey {back in 2000}, visit here.  To see updated pictures of Perry and her family, visit here.

Praying joy, hope and strength for Perry and her family...

Rockstar Michael

{Michael}
Role Model
Rockstar
 In Remission

Hey there, Rockstar Nation. I just wanted to let you all know how thankful we are that Michael is one of your Rohr Rockstars! Michael was diagnosed with a form of Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma back in February and is currently in remission and doing really well. Since we met Trish, she has played such a huge role in helping to get Michael back on track after all of the months of school that he missed while receiving chemo. We meet with Miss Steffanie often (BEST TUTOR EVER) and sweet Trish has spent a lot of time meeting with Michael's teachers and school administration to provide guidance during his transition back to school. Today was a great victory for Michael. Today was his first parent teacher conference of the school year. The teacher's words... "Michael is having a great year. He is meeting all of his grade level expectations and he is showing consistent progress in all areas of school. (This next part is my favorite...) He is gaining more confidence in himself and shares great ideas in class. The other students look up to him." She also handed me his report card which was just AWESOME!!! As I read it, I could hear the choir singing the Hallelujah chorus in the background. Trish, Miss Steffanie, and all of you Rohr Rockstar supporters, I can't thank you enough for all that you do. My son is healthy, happy and loves school. I will be forever grateful to you all!!!
Sincerely,
Michael's mom, Shannon
P.S. Today Michael had his monthly checkup and everything looked great. Still rockin it out in REMISSION. GO MICHAEL... YOU'RE A ROCKSTAR!!!

Fight Like a Girl

A BIG FAT YELLOW FAVOR
from Rohr Rockstars Founder:

Hey everyone,

Our Rockstar Claire is having very risky, very important surgery tomorrow to try to remove as much of her tumor as possible. Her family is with her in Philadelphia, facing tomorrow with strength, courage, and faith.

I would love to send her Dad, Kevin, emails throughout the day with pictures attached of anything and everything YELLOW (you can even write encouragement to the family if you like!) If you can wear yellow - snap a photo and send it to me (you can even write a note of encouragement, a prayer - whatever you like!) Dress up the kids - snap a photo. See a yellow flower - snap a photo. Draw a picture with a yellow marker - snap a pic!

Email everything to me at trish@rohrrockstars.org and I will send them all day long (I hope!!!!).

If we can go through our day tomorrow, capturing everything YELLOW and then send them to the Ratliff family, they can feel the love and prayers radiating like a big yellow STRONG sun all the way from Charlotte!

Think how much one small act tomorrow - an image of yellow - will mean to this family.

Thanks so so much!

xoxo

Trish
